Why couldn’t the GOP have kept this guy engaged? Here’s J.C. Watts op-ed on the liberals’ investment in seeing America lose. A snippet: “I'm thinking the Democrats have invested a lot in seeing the United States not win in Iraq. So many have invested politically in our non-success that they don't want to hear truth and they ignore evidence.”
[Then there’s this wisdom, which, if understood and heeded, might have allowed Republicans to keep their majority in 06…] “Conversely, Republicans were so politically invested in winning that we ignored Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld's failed war policies early on.”
A footnote:
My favorite JC Watts quote of all time: "...they said that I had sold out and Uncle Tom. And I said well, they deserve to have that view. But I have my thoughts. And I think they're race-hustling poverty pimps." (Watts speaking on Hannity and Colmes about his refusal to join the Congressional Black Caucus)

JC thinks Democrats are invested in defeat. I think the Republicans have delivered the greatest geopolitical/military/diplomatic blunder in history and did it by themselves. History will prove I'm right -- and if you've got more than the two brain cells issued to the average Republican you already know I'm right.
Come one Bill. First of all, support among the American public and in Congress was extremely high in March of 2003. So the argument that R's "did it by themselves" is wrong.
While the stringing together of a phrase like "Republicans have delivered the greatest geopolitical/military/diplomatic blunder in history" may sound impressive, it's so shallow as to be meaningless.
First of all, militarily, it hasn't even been a blunder. We've won every battle and continue to best the insurgency. The Russians against the Japenese, the Argentinians agains the Brits, Germans against the West, those are but three conflicts that were military blunders for the party initiating war. Surely you don't mean the US is going to lose militarily in this war?
Geopolitical blunder? I'm willing to stipulate that's remotely possible if we leave and a radicalized Iran takes over most of Iraq thus gaining a land bridget into greater Arabia. But I don't see that happening. The Sunni's would fight like hell if we left to prevent that. Further, it's your folks who are the ones most likely to bring that on with a rapid withdrawal.
BTW Bill: I'll be you a beer and a steak that a Prez. Hillary won't withdraw ALL troops. You guys get sold out by the D's more than conservatives get sold out by the R's.
Finally, diplomatic... if you mean among the academic world, maybe. But in terms of our relations with other governments, we're still strong. Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Turkey... they're all looking at us to help put Iraq on a stable footing. We have good relations with them, with the Asians, and with Europe.
The dig that Republicans are issued only two brain cells... that's a clever one. I'd be happy to debate you on this site or any other and we'll let folks decide that one. It's a shame you have to choose such meaningless fluff to (attempt and fail) to make an anti war point.
Look, I appreciate y'all comin' here to this here blog, but younz need to get your arguments straight before you do.
Please come back and comment often, Bill. Just have something to say rather than platitudes and insults next time.

What's the old saying about lacking anything upon which to stand creating personal insults? Obviously Bill hasn't heard it.
Don't be so sensitive, anon. As to my 'stringing together of a phrase,' let's see:
1) Bush managed to destabilize the entire middle east to an even greater extent than it already was;
2) militarily, we defeated Saddam and Iraq -- and now have spent four (4) years in a mess created by internal strife, religious and civil war -- coming up on a trillion dollars quickly. And weakened our armed forces to its worst level since before World War II - the term 'Pyrrhic victor' comes to mind; and
3) in invading Iraq, Bush squandered all the good will earned by America before 9/11 and as a result of 9/11 and now we're on a global s--t list because of him.
Shallow? That term describes our perception, not mine. And I don't believe Hillary will withdraw troops either. We will have to deal with Bush's screw-ups for decades to come. Don't mistake me for a pacifist, a good war is a good war, but don't expect me to not judge Bush for his failures, failings and screw-ups -- and that's his entire record.
And do you really want to use Saudi Arabia, where the great majority of the 9/11 hijackers came from, where women can't vote, can't drive vehicles, must wear the burka, as an example of ally? So often I hear from the right wing radio nuts that we're fighting against that. Are we on a diplomatic offensive there?
Finally, "Look, I appreciate y'all comin' here to this here blog, but younz need to get your arguments straight before you do."
Now that's the Republican I know.
