Central Appalachian Leadership Forum Draws Pike Officials

Leaders from Appalachian Kentucky and Virginia attended a Central Appalachian Leadership Forum last week.

Senator Ray Jones explained that Appalachian problems are the same whether they’re in E.KY or western Virginia: "We're going to have to let the people in Frankfort know and the people in Richmond know they've taken us for granted for far too long," he said. "You step across that state line, the problems are the same.".

Meanwhile, Pike Judge Executive Wayne T. Rutherford touted Appalachian energy: The biggest news event for people in Pike County and southwestern Virginia is the Agresti Biofuels plant which is expected to make 20 million gallons of fuel-grade ethanol and other marketable products from garbage. The plant is to be located at Ford Mountain near the county's old landfill.
